I have cracked red areas on my hands that are endlessly painful and raw. I have temporary relief from St. Ives hand cream, but I'm looking for a deeper and more soothing solution. Anyone have any ideas of lotions or remedies? :(

Garnier do a great hand cream for extra dry skin with maple sap. It's in a red tube, very good, try it! :)

I use A&D ointment and it really helps I only put it on in the morning and at night because it's like Vaseline

your doctor should be able to give you a medicated lotion to help clear up the eczema. other creams could be irritating it and making it worse.

hey i used to have the same thing all over my arms then my doctor reccomended cera ve, which i had used previously then stopped and also persctibed me topicort which comes in a white and light blue packaging. the creams together healed open wounds on my skin and you can also use these on your whole body (including face) ask a docter or a dermatologist about those:) they work really well. cera ve is an over the counter and topicort is persctiption.

My brother used to have eczema oh his hands during the cold winter time, because of how dry his hands got. That could maybe be the problem? After he started using a hand cream/lotion, his hands started getting better. And after Winter finally finished, it all cleared up. He used HealthÈ Fatty Cream (which may sound gross! Haha) It also helps with dry skin, skin or body

Agree with Yael, CeraVe works great and was recommended to me by my dermatologist. I also use Crabtree & Evelyn hand therapy. If you need stronger than over-the-counter, your dermatologist will have to prescribe a lotion/ointment. I have a type of eczema call dyshidrosis.

There are other products as well such as curel, vaseline, aquaphor, as well as the Neosporin Eczema line which contains many different types of creams and lotions that combat the itch and deep moisturizes. I have been in this very situation in the past, with painful, inflammed fissures, the unavoidable burning itch... and I know it may seem like nothing works. the key to combating the outbreaks of eczema rashes is to keep yourself well hydrated daily. I've also been using Josie Maran's 100% argan oil for a few months now and its kept my eczema at bay, though it is on the pricy side...but I recommend it. but if you have to resort to medication when or if your eczema worsens, ask your dermatologist about Betamethasone, its a topical ointment. Good Luck!

I used to have the exact same condition, especially on my hands, it would always crack and be extremely painful and itchy. When it went away it left scars over my hands. I'm not sure exactly how I got rid of it but here's some things that I tried or happened at the time:
1. I stopped touching my hands, like scratching them or rubbing them, as stupid as it sounds I found this worked better than ointments or creams.
2. I was diagnosed with adrenal suppression so was admitted to hospital, which allowed me not to scratch my hands as I was so poorly, I was also given hydrocortisone tablets as my medication for the adrenal suppression, as you probably already know hydrocortisone is a steroid cream that can be prescribed by the doctors and since I was taking this in tablet form this may have been the solution to the eczema.
3. Try different steroid creams and moisturisers from the doctors. Ask! There's no harm in asking.
4. Asking for something with lots of moisture maybe a paraffin type moisturiser, as the more moisture locked in the better (although I didn't really like the paraffin as it was quite messy)
And finally, if the eczema cracks or splits always wrap it with a plaster or a bandage to allow it to heal quicker and keep bacteria out of it.
I hope this helps! :) good luck
