So I really want to bleach my hair. But not even super white blonde. Dirty blonde. But my my mum won't let me! How can I convince her into letting me bleach it?

Don't bleach it!! It is so gorgeous your natural color!! I know that's not what you want to hear, but bleach will destroy your pretty locks. It took me 20 years to realize I wanted my natural color back, and another 5 to grow it super long and I love it!!

But she knows, and let, me bleach my hair when I was ombre-ing my hair. And I had to bleach it 3 to 5 times and it is not damaged at all!

And I mean, if I dont like it, I can always dye it back to brown.

If I DYE my hair blond. Will it make my hair lighter?

Don't bleach it.

Lightner is not a dye. lightner removes pigment and yes can be damaging. I am sure your mom is not going to want to pay for you to have to lighten it 5-6 more times again.

Just lightening it makes it yellow more than blonde. it happened to me when I bleached my hair and it from more time and money than if I just got, it professional done the first time. plus, having bleached hair is very time consuming.

You're young, make a compromise. Ask her if you still want it in six months.

Okay woah. you can't "dye" your hair blonde. you can lighten your hair. but I wouldn't recommend it bc yes it can be very damaging. its also hard to maintain BC of the water your shower has...like soft or hard water and once your roots start showing you'll have to get a touch up. very time consuming and something you have to be dedicated to.

Don't do it your moms right

Carolyn is right. Show your mom you're willing to compromise. Tell her you are willing to wait and that having blonde hair is not just on a whim. Have it professionally done don't do it yourself! Your hair is really fragile.

After having blonde hair for a whole year, I have to agree with those who are saying to not do it. Yea it was a fun color but I was in college and broke so I had to upkeep it myself out of a box and it looked bad more than it ever looked good. And then when I did switch to another color nothing wanted to stick because there was nothing left for the color to grab onto. And it gets brassy/yellow and just rarely looks good. In my opinion/my suggestion: I wouldn't go any kind of blonde unless you are able to have it professionally done in a salon every 6 weeks, which can be expensive. It gets even more expensive when your hair gets damaged and you have to buy products to repair it and keep it healthy. Or when you decide to go to the salon for corrective color because you hate the result and are tired of the upkeep. It may seem like a simple thing to do but it can go bad quickly. It takes longer to fix the damage than it does to cause the damage.

Dont bleach your hair you are going to ruin them! Trust me been through that and done that and now I wish I hadn't coz it felt like straw and I had to grow it out to get rid of it :/

I recommend not doing it, you WILL regret it later. You just have to learn to love what you have, since your natural hair looks gorgeous on you! Blonde definitely wouldn't suit you, and like plenty of others said before, the upkeep is ridiculous. Good luck and hope you make the right decision :)

You have a perfectly good head of red hair. Why would you want to f*ck it up with bleach? Totally disregarding the fact that it's damaging - there aren't that many people on the PLANET that have your hair color naturally. It's a genetic rarity that you should be proud of. Do you see Julianne Moore bleaching her hair? No. And she's fabulous.

If I were your mother and you bleached your hair, I'd ground you until you were 18.

I have never bleached my hair and I would say go for it just be risky! if you don't like it let your relax and re dye it normal.

I have naturally red hair. When I was about 10 or 11 I always begged my mum to let me bleach it. She said no. She started to allow me to use wash in wash out colours, but all I really wanted was blonde. I grew out of actually wanting to be blonde but by the time I was old enough to use permanent dyes (think I started dying it around 13 or 14... Not sure whether that's really old enough to most people either) and then I started to go crazy dying it all the colours in the world, bleaching it to get it to the right colours. Anyway, to cut a long story short, I'm 23 now and all I want is ginger hair. I fucked my hair up from dying it, it's taken forever and a lot of hair cuts to get it back healthy again, and now that I want to be ginger I've discovered my ginger has faded to a rubbish mousy version of its former self and now I have it dyed ginger... Ginger is becoming really popular, you should definitely wait it out a bit. As much as we all hate it, you'll get to a point where you realise mum was probably always right. At least wait and see if you still want to go blonde in a few months or a year. And go to the hairdressers to have it done if you do! But honestly, healthy hair is a lot nicer than blonde damaged hair x

Also, with your freckles, even if you go blonde you'll still look like a red head. That's not saying your freckles are a bad thing, they're nice, but your colouring would be very, very hard to cover up and I can't see any other colour suiting your colouring. I would say maybe get a wash in wash out colour in a brighter red if you have to change it, be proud of being a red head and just ginge it up!x

Two words: Lindsey Lohan.

Five words: Lindsey Lohan vs. Julianne Moore.

Should have said that earlier.

Feb 10, 2013

Kim S.

Lol what do you mean?x

Feb 10, 2013

Stephanie D.

Oh lord. I forget I'm old. Lindsey is a natural redhead. She was like 11 in The Parent Trap or something. Then she had that big hit with Mean Girls and afterwards went in a downward spiral of crack-fueled depravity and bleached her hair. She looked...well, not to put too fine a point on it, like the coke-addict she was.

I'd kill for natural red hair.

Of course your mum isn't keen, bleaching your hair is very damaging and she no doubt knows this.
Perhaps you could compromise and get it done professionally? It'll cost more but a professional colourist will do the process in the best way for minimal damage. Maybe suggest to your mum you'll save for a professional to do it for you, she might warm to that idea a bit better.

@Stephanie D, don't worry, I'm old enough to know that lol, I just didn't get the Lindsay Lohan vs Julianne Moore thing. Yes. She did look like a crack whore. Last I saw she was getting fat. Which makes a change I suppose. Still looked like a crack whore though :/
