Petroleum jelly as a night cream!

I know this might sound disgustingly greasy, but trust me on this one.
I don't know what made me decide to do this in the first place, but at some point I decided to start putting petroleum jelly all over my face at night before I went to bed. Literally you wake up with the softest skin in all the land!
I know it's a barrier cream and not a moisturiser, but I'm assuming it works because of the fact that your skin is repairing itself at night so by stopping anything else from getting to it, it repairs better? I don't know.
What I do know is that I have combination skin and blocked pores and it doesn't make me any greasier as long as I wash my face in the morning and it actually slightly opens my pores up. But more importantly its the nicest thing I've ever used on my skin.
I just use those little tins of Vaseline that are meant for your lips :)

Makes the skin around your eyes soo nice, don't you think? Not sure it makes your eyelashes grow though. Only just started using it again cos I remembered how good it was, so I'll keep my eye on their progress but its been a few days now and they don't look any less stumpy than before :s

It's made out of crude oil, which is made out of animal and plant remains

I know tons of people do this but I can't imagine slathering a petroleum product all over my face. Yes it makes the top layer soft but it doesn't moisturize deep down which is what you want in a good moisturizer.

I've tried it before with a moisturiser first then the Vaseline... So that it locks the moisturiser in. That worked nicely too but I actually find it enough on its own. Is it a bad thing for it to be made from animal and plant remains? Forgive me if I sound stupid, but I don't knooow. Animal remains don't sound nice but they don't sound harmful either. Please don't tell me my face is gonna fall off lol

Eww no!!! that will clog your pores, make you break out, leave your skin greasy and smelly, will create a thick barrier and your skin wont be able to breathe, I cant think of anything worse, don't go there!

Alba makes a product called un-petroleum jelly that has things like coconut oil in it. I imagine the texture will be about the same but its probably better for skin than whatever's in the petroleum kind. Its about $4-5. I haven't looked in a drugstore but they have it on Amazon. I plan on trying it in the future.

I dunno, if I even leave my makeup on for one night my skin starts to break out but petroleum jelly makes it nice. It's not perfect but its the best thing I've used. Maybe I'm just odd but I've read a lot of people do it and swear by it

Ya it won't clog pores but its a oil byproduct (like gasoline, diesel fuel, butane etc) so if I were going to use it if probably use the live clean baby non petroleum jelly.

alba un-petroleum oil has the same effect without the nasty ingredients

I've just been reading up on Vaseline and it turns out its non-comedogenic which means it doesn't clog pores :) so no need to worry about that

This article is written by medical professionals . It states s. The European Union has banned many petroleum jelly products, and experts are concerned they could be linked to cancer. Women with breast cancer have twice the levels of hydrocarbons (substances found in petroleum jelly) in their breasts than women who haven't had breast cancer. " It does say 'could be linked' and I'm not sure if it is absorbed into the face but its just an interesting article to consider

Well Vaseline itself doesn't clog pores but I suppose with it being a barrier cream it won't allow your natural oils to come out of your skin. It's good for me, because my skins looking knackered and even though it gets shiny it feels really tight and dry as well so I think it's definitely dehydrated. Probably not so good for people who's skin is not so dry though. There are a lot of good reviews from people who use it though. I agree it doesn't sound like it would do your skin any favours but I really, really like the effects of it

Madi, that's an interesting article, alot of it made sense, also about the mineral powder.More reasons to stay away from petroleum jelly.

Well as a smoker it would be a bit silly of me to worry... Not that it stops me worrying anyway. I just read this one http://www.health-report.co.uk/petroleum_petrolatum_health_concerns.htm and it looks like the laws on it in Europe are pretty strict now anyway? But also it's found in 1 in 14 products on the market, so if I'm going down with vaseline related cancer, everyone else is coming with me lol
