We are still blown away by the spectacular feats of artistry that won Blanche Macdonald Global Makeup graduate Gloria Kim FIRST PLACE in the International Makeup Artist Trade Show (IMATS) Sydney Battle of the Brushes competition! "My concept is inspired by the traditional Korean house. The house itself portrays artwork with its wood-frame construction and its signature tiled roof made of intricate details and patterns. They were built continuously from 1392-1910. Some are conserved, while some are built in present day, serving not only as a home but also as an glimpse of past's beauty. "For the face I used Make Up For Ever HD Foundation (N115) mixed with Kryolan stick foundation (Ivory). For the eyes, a gorgeous burgundy shadow from my Blanche Macdonald school kit, my Ben Nye Neutral set powder and Ben Nye shadows – the pigment of Ben Nye was amazing! The colours show up on the model's face really well! For the eyebrows, black front fades to brown to the end using BenNye (Black ER-99 & Twilight Sable ER-80). All the colours I used for her body were from Make Up For Ever's 12 Flash Color Case and Kryolan rainbow wheel. The airbrush colours were from Golden!"

Making up the faces of our Blanche Macdonald Spring Fashion Showcase! We’re taking a trip into the minds (and kits) of the Makeup team behind the scenes of our 2014 Fashion Design graduate show! Concept by Blanche Fashion Makeup Director/graduate/NOBASURA boss man Jon Hennessey, keyed by Makeup Instructor, the lovely Win Liu and executed with the help of fellow Makeup grads Marina Hume and Catlyn Jeong! “The collection was mostly in neutral greys and beige to whites, so the concept for makeup was to have a fresh, fun, but not too avant garde look. "Mix" was a key word for application! Reddish brown shadow (Ben Nye "Coco Rose")was used all over the top lid blending into eye brows, and all over bottom of the eyes a warmer darker brown (Ben Nye "Cork") was blended into outer and inner corners on top, and outer corner on bottom. Everything was matte at this point. I mixed silver and purple MUFE Aqua Creams (04 and 26) to create a pale lavender for the inner corner on eyes, and top it off with lavender shadow from MAC (All That Iris). I also brushed this onto the center of lids. Lots of black mascara for the top lashes! On the lips I mixed a frosted pale lavender with frosted dark mauve (Cinema Secret "Pink Satin" and "Millennium")for the base, and loaded it up with silver and purple glitter (mix of Ben Nye "Amethyst" and sparkles from Glitter Dust). Contour (Kevyn Aucoin "medium") and blush (Stila "Soar" and "Cozy") were kept minimal, with a flawless matte skin finished with MAC Prep+Prime Illuminate pressed CC powder.” -Win Liu

"I have always been inspired by the beauty and elegance of Mughal princesses and queens of India and how their fashions originated trends that are widely followed and admired around the globe. My idea behind creating this look is from a Mughal princess in an issue of 2013 Vogue magazine. Vogue inspires artists and designers and provokes creative minds to bring something unusual yet aesthetically appealing to many other editorials as well as for fashion lovers." Makeup breakdown: 1. Layer liquid and cream foundations to create the smooth skin with a highlighted undertone. 2. Apply MUFE's star powders on lower lid add two tone shimmer with fashion lashes from Make Up For Ever. 3. Shadows intensity was build using Ben Nye matte shadows followed by satin finish MAC shades. 4. Make Up For Ever star powder was used to create this unconventional lip color. 5. Highlight eyelids with Mehron pigments. Products used: Kryolan foundation, Make Up For Ever star powders and lashes, MAC and Ben Nye eye shadows, and Mehron pigments.
