I use dotting tool to make dots. The easiest way to do them (for me) is to start near the cuticle in the middle of the nail and then just dot to the edge of the nail, so I have the dots only in the middle of my nail, in line, so this is the leading line for me and then it's easier to finish up the missing lines. If you want to have dots in the same size, try to take the same amount of polish every time on the dotting tool/toothpick or whatever you use for dotting. Hope this helps, because I don't know how to explain it with words :)
