Marc Jacobs Beauty Review

On August 9, Marc Jacobs, best known for his creative genius in fashion, debuted his first ever makeup collection. The line, Marc Jacobs Beauty (for now, sold exclusively at Sephora and select Marc Jacobs boutiques) is nothing if not comprehensive with 120 pieces in all. Among the offerings are 24 different shades of nail polish, 16 gel foundations, 10 eye shadow compacts (with either three or seven shades), eight concealers, and nine blushes. Each category is jam-packed with bold colors, and there are also makeup brushes, a brow tamer, a mascara, a bronzer, and more. Phew! The simple, sleek, black-and-silver compacts, which reflect Jacobs’ aesthetic, feel really special in your bag or on the vanity.

And we expected nothing less from the designer, who’s constantly pushing limits. We love that he stuck to the Marc Jacobs ethos when creating this line—inspiring people to experiment with style and step out of their comfort zones; “I think the idea of transforming into this person you want to be is a lot of fun,” Jacobs said of the collection. We couldn’t agree more: now is always the best time to experiment with makeup, and this line is perfect for that.

A standout for us is the Style Eye-Con No. 3 compact in 106 The Rebel (a trio of eye shadows); in particular, the fuchsia shade, which we created this look around.

To copy this eye look: Apply the fuchsia shadow all over the lid, on the inner and outer corners, and in the creases. Then blend the cream color (from the same compact) into the fuschia, to highlight the brow bones. Finally, line the eyes with the third shadow, the deep purple, and finish with mascara and a brow definer (we used Korres Provitamin B5 & Rice Bran Mascara and Make Up For Ever Aqua Brow).

On the face, go simple to keep the focus on the eyes. We used Temptu Concealer Wheel, Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Cover Foundation, and a dusting of RMS Un-Powder. The two final finishing touches from Marc Jacobs Beauty were a bit of Shameless Bold Blush in 210 Irresistible on cheeks and Enamored Hi-Shine Lacquer in Glinda, a super sparkly silver we couldn’t resist!
