“I love my yellow nails!” says Lady Gaga of her Grammys Manicure

  • 19

As always, Lady Gaga put on quite a dramatic show at this year's Grammy Awards, complete with egg/womb costume. So when you're a newborn Monster, what do you wear on your nails? Keep reading to find out the inspiration behind Lady Gaga's manicure at the 2011 Grammys!

We caught up with celebrity manicurist Deborah Lippmann (THE Deborah Lippmann behind the polish line) backstage at the Badgley Mischka Fall 2011 fashion show this morning and she gave us the inside scoop on Lady Gaga's sunny nail shade from the Grammy Awards on Sunday. "Gaga has been wearing a lot of long nails lately [in Deborah Lippmann's nude "Fashion" shade]. She loves Fashion. But I knew there would be a lot of black and beige nails on the red carpet and she's Gaga, so I thought she should stand out. And there was a lot of yellow in her costume, so I showed her this shade and she said 'I'm not hating the yellow.' Gaga and her stylist said it reminded them of embryonic fluid. Her stylist also said the color reminded her of a condom," says Deborah. Embryonic fluid, condoms, did Gaga explain her costume to Deborah? "She said she was birthing a new nation of people that don't judge. An as Gaga was getting into the coffin to go to the show, the lid is up and security is about to close it when she raises her arms in the air and yells 'I love my yellow nails!" says Deborah. But can you pull off yellow nails if you're not Gaga? "Yellow is a hard color to wear for a lot of people," Deborah admits. "That's why I made a sheer jelly yellow. It goes with any skin tone."
