Summer Hair Trend: The Textured Twist

Published Jun 07, 2011

This summer, we embrace the frizz, the fuzz, and the fly-aways! The dry, texturized waves that we've seen on the runway and the red carpet are a perfect low-maintenance hair style for summer. Curls and waves get a grungy-chic finish that's easy to style at any length. What's so cool about these textured twists? "They're simple and effortless, but totally on trend," according to Gisele Bündchen's celebrity hair stylist and John Frieda Creative Consultant, Harry Josh. We gave you the breakdown for Elizabeth Olsen and Scarlett Johanssen's frizzed waves, but here are some extra tips from Harry to perfect your summer waves this season.

Amp Up The Mousse  "Mousse is a total must-have for waves. It gives this amazing texture once dry—essential for this look! While hair is damp, apply a golf ball size amount on shorter hair and a baseball size on longer hair, working from scalp to mid-section."

Heat It Up "Once your hair is dry, coil hair in sections around a 1" curling iron. Hold the iron vertically and wrap your hair around the barrel like tinsel on a Christmas tree. Curl the hair for few seconds and then let it loose. Repeat for the whole head."

Brush It Out "This step is pivotal for texture. Brush the curls out with a flat paddle brush and give the style a messy and undone finish. Spritz with a light hold hairspray, give your waves a tousle, and you're good to go!"

I wish my hair wasn't so naturally straight and naturally greasy so i could do this look...so fustrating

I really want to try this look out. I've recently cut my hair and am finding little ways to style other than straightening all of it and pinning my bangs up. I love cute messy waves :D

Me too! Try it out and have fun with it! The look is supposed to be messy and playful so you really can't go wrong :P

its beautiful, but my hair is so thin, the curls wont last on it

I love this look on girls, it's so trendy, but my hair's too slick to look dry enough to pull this off. [jealous] :D

Can't beat this look!
