We've already told you about the latest super food—chia seeds—but there's something else to add to your shopping list! Açai berries are packed full of antioxidants (500 times more than blueberries!), wrinkle-fighting omega-3 fatty acids, and vitamins. Celebrity nutritionist Kimberly Snyder's açai berry smoothie recipe combines these naturally sweet rainforest berries and cacao powder for a power-packed drink that you could also eat as a liquid dessert. "Açai berries contain vitamins A, B1, and E  which work to heal skin irritations, promote healthy cell growth, and can even help with digestion,” explains Kim. Adding cacao powder (which makes the drink taste like chocolate) boosts this beverage’s antioxidant and magnesium content to help build healthy bones and protect against heart attacks. Combine these good-for-you ingredients with avocado, and you’ve got a super smoothie that packs a nutritional punch!

Rainforest Açai Smoothie

Ingredients:

  1. 3 ½ ounces frozen açai berries

  2. 2 cups unsweetened almond milk

  3. ½ Tbsp raw cacao

  4. Stevia to taste

  5. ½ avocado (optional, to make the smoothie thicker and more filling)

Directions:
Using a blender, mix the açai berries and almond milk at a low speed until you’ve broken down the berries. Then move to a higher speed. Once the mixture is smooth, add the cacao and the stevia. Mix in avocado if you want a denser snack or dessert.
