3 Creative Ways To Dress Up Your Bob

Published Jan 27, 2012

Thanks to celebrities such as Olivia Wilde and Shakira, Hollywood's chic bob trend has continued into the New Year. And while taking off a few inches is a great way to start 2012 off fresh, many of us get stuck in a creative rut with our short tresses. If you're pondering a dramatic crop—or you already took the plunge!— we've rounded up a few star-inspired styles that are perfect for chin-length locks.

VANESSA HUDGENS

While still growing out her hair after last summer's shocking cut, Vanessa has experimented with a slew of styles. One of our favorites? Her edgy, roughed up curls at this year's People's Choice Awards. Recreate the look by loosely slicking back hair with a pomade—be sure the hair looks tousled, not slick, in the front. Use bobby pins to secure mane around crown and texturize the ends with your fingers for a piece-y effect.

HAYDEN PANETTIERE

Short and sweet! A ponytail doesn't have to be long and flowy for a chic effect. Hayden proved that a petite version or a tiny tucked knot (left) can look elegant when paired with a polished front. Make sure to curl ends under before securing above the nape of your neck with a small clear elastic.

DIANNA AGRON

Spring's lacquered locks trend is ideal for shorter tresses. Get a sleek pompadour style like Dianna Agron’s, by backcombing the top roots before gently flipping them back. Apply gel to the sides and brush and tuck them back behind your ears to make the top look even more voluminous.

I LOVE this! I just cut my hair back into an A line this Friday and this article is what helped me make the decision! There really is a lot that you can do with short hair, look forward to more of these!

I just cut my hair into a chin length bob so this is very helpful!! :-)

This was so helpful!!! I cut my hair two years ago, and I'm starting to think I got my mom and dads balding gene, lol. Because my hair hasn't really grown much. Learning how to style it is definitely helpful!!! :D Def going to try most of these.

I want to try #1 now that my hair is getting longer.

My hair was almost the same length last summer as Dianna.. I really like her hair but I couldn't do anything with it that I liked. (TG my hair grows very fast)

My hair is same sort of length as the lovely Dianna's so i might give this style a go!! Love it how short ish hair styles are becoming popular, but i would love to see tutorials on how to do the different styles!

Thank god! A short hair article haha! i just cut 6 1/2 inches off my hair into a A line and i have to wear my hair up for work so this will help! Too bad theres no tutorials on Vanessa's hair is gorgeous!

I agree! I also have curly hair so Vanessa's hair will be something that I'm going to try soon! Yay.

i love how girls with short hair now a have options too!!!

I'm trying to grow my hair out right now and these are great to play with to deal with not wanting it just down!

Thank you for this article! Just chopped my hair off into an asymmetrical bob and I can never figure out how to change it up! :)

yeah ..i have the same haircut and i'm bored of it :)) this really helps!
