We know indoor tanning is a no-no and spray tans can be a hassle, so how do you achieve a faux glow without risking your skin in the sun? Gradual tanners are perfect for bronzing beginners, and new-and-improved formulas mean they don’t smell like fake tan, tighten and tone, include SPF, and make perfecting your custom-designed hue easier than ever. These are our favorites of the moment.
DIOR SELF-TANNING CRÈME IN NATURAL GLOW
This gel-like formula smells nothing like fake tan—in fact, it feels more like an expensive hand cream! The consistency is light and streak-free, so use it both day and night to build up a deeper color.
SUPERGOOP! SPF 20 GRADUAL SELF-TANNING SUNSCREEN MOUSSE
Build a tan and protect your skin? It sounds too good to be true, but Supergoop! achieves it with a sweet-scented, easy-to-use mousse. Better yet, the formula is infused with a combination of polyphenols and green tea (which are potent antioxidants) to protect against free radicals.
ST. TROPEZ GRADUAL TAN PLUS FIRMING 4 IN 1 LOTION
St Tropez is known for excellence in self-tanning products, and this new gradual tint is no different—it’s the ultimate beach multitasker. The formula is designed to mimic skin’s natural melatonin, but it also firms, moisturizers, and tones simultaneously.

I have tried all the department brands and most of the cvs and Walgreens stuff...my all time favorite is the Lorac sunless Tanner, its not gradual so you can see right away where and how much color you will get. I mix it with a thick lotion on my body and with face cream on my face. lancome has a good line for the face but its a gradual one and I am not a big fan of not seeing results until later because that is how you get streaks. the Neutrogena and Dove glow lotions are great for daily color building. the mousse products are OK but I think the best ones to get are the ones that show thebcolpr right away and I am very pale but always but the darkest available and dilute with lotion or moisturizer to create a custom color.

I'm interested in trying a self tanner for a first time. I don't know much about them. I have really fair skin, and i'm worried about being orange. What are good ones?

If you dont want to spend tons of money on a gradual self-tanner you should try Jergens Natural Glow. I use it every year because it gives me a natural shade and nobody can tell im using it since it tans gradually!

I love Dove's self-tanning lotion. Tans your skin gradually so no need to worry about the harsh lines. Looove it.

I like gradual tanners because my upper body is always darker than my legs so it allows my legs to catch up. I really want to try the St. Tropez one. I have heard so many good things about the brand.
