One thing we're currently crushing on? Gorgeously pretty, flushed, rosy cheeks. The problem? So many formulas and too little time! When it comes to blush, do you choose a cream or a powder? Thinking there must be some higher power governing blush decisions, we asked Lorac cosmetics founder Carol Shaw and celebrity makeup artist Rosie Jane for their opinions. Funnily enough, the results were completely polar—guess you really can’t have too much of a good thing!
POWDER
"Personally and professionally, I love powder blush," admits Carol. "It gives a beautiful healthy glow and works extremely well for girls with oily skin, as it helps to subdue a shiny complexion. Some cream blushes also contain oil, which can cause breakouts!" When applying powder blush, it helps to dust off excess pigment from your brush, and begin applying from your hairline towards the apple of your cheek. This will ensure that you don't have a huge buildup of product in the center of your face, and it's easier to blend the powder into your hairline!
Carol's recommendation: Lorac Matte Satin Baked Blush
CREAM
"My heart is with cream blushes," counters Rosie. "A cream blush is easier to blend into the skin, and it gives a slight, dewy glow. I love wearing a cream blush in the summer, as it seems to stay longer through the heat. A cream powder will also look fresh on your face, as opposed to cakey. Plus, it helps your skin to stay moisturized!”
Rosie’s recommendation: Bobbi Brown Lip & Cheek Pots

I actually prefer stains... Harder to blend but the staying power is unparalleled.

I love BOTH! Haha but I actually think powder blush is easier to apply because it blends more quickly. But I love my MAC Ladyblush even though it's been fighting with my MAC Lovecloud.

I absolutely love cream blush. I have ridiculously dry skin so I tend to shy away from using too many powders in general. Cream blush is just amazing to me because it's so goof proof and blends so easily. I love it!

I love creme blush mostly cause I have dry skin. I hardly apply powder on my skin anymore. I hate that flaky patches even though I exfoliate and moisturized before.

I use powder blush on a daily basics because it's lighter on my skin than cream and it gives me a balanced dry look. plus almost anything with a cream texture dose not mix with my oils very well, it's heavier and my skin looks too moist and it smears all over the place (including my shirts). I think it depends on your skin type, how your oils in your skin reacts to the texture and how you are comfortable on wearing it.

I've never used a creme blush but I really want to because lately I've been really into the dewy look, especially with summer right around the corner. problem is I wouldn't know what to use -- I've hear that creme blushes can make you break out really bad and that's the last thing I need!

I don't understand the reason for this debate - I use both at the same time! Like Sian (below), using both really gives your rosy flush staying power. I also like using a peach/coral cream with a little pink on top and it looks really pretty. Makeup is for experimenting!

I was never one for cream blush but I tried it and it was not too bad although I use powder on a daily basis when I want to switch it up I use cream and layer a little translucent powder on top.
