The Best of Milan Fashion Week

Prada, Gucci and Missoni—it’s Milan fashion week! While the shows have wrapped up, there’s still plenty of beauty inspiration to be had. We rounded up our favorite looks from the collections and discovered the best hair and makeup trends.

Grecian-inspired rope braids crowned models heads and swung down their backs at Fendi-perhaps an ode to Medusa? While the rest of the shows delivered dip-dyed ends and voluminous beehives (we also loved the milkmaid braids at Emilio Pucci), hairstylist Sam McKnight wanted to create a dark nordic look for Fendi. “It’s almost Victorian, not fairytale,” he explained. The stylist weaved all the braids by hand, slathering strands in Sebastian Forte Strong Hold Gel before meticulously twisting them into place.

If Miuccia Prada is the queen of her runway, make up artist Pat McGrath reigns as empress backstage. The makeup artist turned models into futuristic warrior princesses for the Prada runway, and used four different colors to achieve the edgy neo-Amazonian effect. McGrath began by layering orange greasepaint over blocked out eyebrows, then swept a black greasepaint through the crease and toward the brow bone. Upper and lower lash lines were rimmed with strokes of black and purple pencil (all colors included in the latest collection). Then, she blended white foundation from the outer corner of the eyes to the temple.

Nails were nude and monochromatic in Milan this week, which kept the focus on the stunning eye makeup that appeared on the catwalk! We were obsessed with the shimmering, metallic peepers at Roberto Cavalli. Inspired by the iridescent colors of peacock feathers, each model had a different combination of shimmering tones. Makeup artist Pat McGrath created the look by applying gleaming green, purple, blue and gold shadows onto eyelids, all smudged into a line of Cover Girl’s LiquiLine Blast Eyeliner in black.
